BAPTISM

Baptism is the first visible act of obedience in Christian discipleship. Greek word "Baptiso" means "to dip".

Why Baptism?

God's command

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Mathew 28:19

Jesus has said these words, and we being His followers in truth, need to obey His words.

God's will for us

But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not bapized of him. Luke 7:30

The Pharisees and lawyers, as we read in the bible have been the self-righteous people who have always sticked to their traditions and whom we see did not have any love for God. But Jesus was always with the sinners, sick, and who were broken-hearted and with not those who considered them righteous but inwardly had evil thoughts and plans. He calls them who do sin to repent from sin and be baptized. It is impossible for us to forget and come out of our sinful ways, but when we long for God's love to change our heart, it flows immeasurably.

Fulfilling of Righteousness

Let me be baptized, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness. Mathew 3:15

Good conscience - Covenant

..which was a symbol pointing to baptism, which now saves you. It is not the washing away of bodily dirt, but the promise made to God from a good conscience. It saves you through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has gone to heaven and is at the right-hand side of God.. 1 Peter 3:21-22

As in the days of Noah, how the 8 people on boat were saved because they chose to obey God. This is the new covenant which is made with a good conscience. This also relates that the person should be mature enough to understand that they are making a covenant with God.

Marriage is a covenant before God and Men. It means that we have a commitment to take care of our family and do our responsibilities concerning it. It should not be taken lightly. While there is also dating, where a couple involved may or may not marry. But they can never live as dating couples forever. It is just temperory, unlike the marriage covenant which lasts permanently when both the husband and wife are loyal and loving to each other regardless of the circumstances. Baptism is a covenant/agreement towards God, we are taking a decision to follow Him and be bonded into that relationship. Since God's stretching hand has never deserted anybody who has taken their decision to love Him, we have a hope to spend our eternity with Him.

Identification with Christ

For surely you know that when we were baptized into union with Christ Jesus, we were baptized into union with his death. By our baptism, then, we were buried with him and shared his death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from death by the glorious power of the Father, so also we might live a new life. For since we have become one with him in dying as he did, in the same way we shall be one with him by being raised to life as he was. And we know that our old being has been put to death with Christ on his cross, in order that the power of the sinful self might be destroyed, so that we should no longer be the slaves of sin. Romans 6:3-6

For when you were baptized, you were buried with Christ, and in baptism you were also raised with Christ through your faith in the active power of God, who raised him from death. Colossians 2:12

Following the example of Jesus

For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us leaving us an example that you should follow His foot steps. 1 Peter 2:21

Conditions for baptism

Confession of sins and repentance

They confessed their sins; and he baptized them in Jordan. 1 Peter 2:21
Each one of you must turn away from your sins and be baptized in the name of JESUS Christ, so that your sins will be forgiven; you will receive God's gift of Holy Spirit. ACTS 2: 38

Wholehearted faith on Lord Jesus Christ

Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned. Mark 16:16

See here is some water, What is to keep me from being baptized? Acts 8:36-38

When to be baptized? Delayed obedience is disobedience. So when you repent and believe in Jesus, be baptized for so says the word.

And he and all his family were baptized at once. Acts 16:33
